Enjoying hard work.

My Dad visited my 4th grade classroom as a guest speaker for “jobs that use math”. He and his AE from KING TV explained to the room of 9-year-olds that the unprecedented household reach of the Super Bowl drove pricing of :30 second broadcast commercials on game day into the millions each year. We pretended to understand & smiled when we were all given branded stuffed mascots of KING Mic.

Later, I found my way into competitive rowing and immediately something about the training demands clicked. In endurance sports, performance is determined by the quality and consistency of training across months and years. One successful day of training will not make you race ready. A couple hundred successful days will.

I’m passionate about marketing and rowing and have enjoyed success in both because I love the hard work and the relentless pursuit of excellence. Clever strategies are fun but nothing replaces consistent quality work. And the real work is done in the middle thousand.

About Alex

Alex’s alarm goes off in the 4s (in a pre-covid world, anyways) and the workouts start at 5A whether it’s rowing, running, or Torqin’ in at FlyWheel SLU. Post Americano, each day looks a little different.

Prior to starting MTM, Alex worked in broadcast & digital media operations, sales, and management with several Seattle companies where she was described as the ‘air traffic controller’, bridging efforts between product teams and sales. While she stopped rowing seriously after the 2011 Under23 World Championships, she has found much success in Masters Rowing with Pocock Rowing Center’s Women’s Sweep team.

It’s worth noting that her Dad works in advertising and her Mom works in operations. They met at a Texas Ad Agency in the 80s.
